Guernsey Little Russell Regatta 2007

The Little Russel Regatta is held over two days of racing. The first day, a 16.4 kilometre endurance race from Havlet Bay, around the neighboring islands of Herm and back to St Peter Port for the finish line. The second days activities was a 6.6k sprint around the Cans & buoys in Havlet Bay. Exmouth entered 5 crews into the regatta: Ladies Coxed Quad: Rachel Tarr, Kim Tapper, Allie Giles, Kate Hurley and Mike Drew (Cox) Ladies Double Scull: Bryony Stowell, Jane Edwards. Mens Coxed Quad: John Croombe, Nigel Kinder, Graham Hurley, Tobe O Dea & Mark Lees (Cox) . Mens Coxed Quad: Sam Malloy, Chris Long, Rob Williams, Jack Pearce and Ed Peace (Cox) Mens Coxed Quad: Tony Lovering, Jeff Hammond, Mark Smith, Brian O dea. Exmouths lads took the opportunity to borrow one of Guernseys faster, lighter styles boats to put in a serious challenge against the other crews using these boats. Guernseys boats have a V shaped hull which is better designed to cut through waves, where Exmouths flatter shaped hulls sit on top of the water and crash down the other side of waves!! The other mens crews and ladies crew decided to use our heavier boats, and because of the amount of choppy water, the extra weight and stability worked out in their favor.
