World Coastal Rowing Championships 2007

The first official FISA World Coastal Rowing Championships was held by Mandelieu Rowing Club in Cannes, France between the 19th & 21st of October 2007. The event attracted a vast range of competitors from all over the globe, all with an extensive range of abilities. The event was intended for clubs, though that didnt stop the odd Olympic standard fine boat rower jumping in for a go in the waves! Exmouth Rowing Clubs Senior C four of Sam Malloy, Chris Long, Rob Williams, Jack Pearce coxed by Ed Pearce are obviously not at Olympic standard, but still put up a spirited fight against the best of this sport. Exmouth RC were one of 4 clubs representing GBR, along side Westminster School Boat Club, Bull Bay RC and Aberdyfi RC - All of which did their country proud. Friday the 19th of October saw the 8 kilometre qualification races for all Mens and Womens Single Sculls, Double Sculls, and Coxed Quads and Fours. To qualify for the final, Exmouth needed to place at least 15th out of 30 - They did just that! They pulled through by the skin of their teeth in 15th place!! Looking at the times recorded for the 1st and 2nd heats, Exmouths time was actually the slowest out of the 30 qualified boats. But in the final the lads managed to get out in front of 8 boats and finish 22! World ranking 22nd out of 60 and fastest GBR crew!!!!! Thank you to Brian and Mike for organising everything, taking us to the event and supporting us - we are forever in your debt! Now remember gents, you may be international coaches, but its FISA MATE!!!! (Don’t ask)
