Torbay Regatta 2007
Awesome results were achieved for all 7 of Exmouths competitors at Torbay Royal Regatta this year. The races were held over a 1000 metre course along the bay of Torquay. Even though the water was flat and the wind was relatively calm, the wash from other boats proved enough to capsize many competitors.
First race for ERC - The Mens Senior C Single Sculls. Sam Malloy was granted a row over due to his opposition not turning up to the start line in time.
Ed Pearce and Marcus Bowyer raced in the Mens Junior 14 Single Sculls against some fine opposition from Dartmouth RC. After a hard fought battle between Marcus and the young sculler from Dartmouth, Marcus took the win with Ed coming in 4th.
The Mens Senior C Four of Sam Malloy, Chris Long, Rob Williams and Jack Pearce coxed by Ed Pearce, dominated Exeter, Paignton and Bideford. The boys finished with a 5 length win over Exeter who placed second.
Also, Exmouth placed 1st and 2nd in both the Mens Novice 1x & Junior 16 1x. Rob Williams won Novice and Jack Pearce won the Junior class.
The Junior 16 Quad (Jack Pearce, Charlie Angel, Marcus Bowyer and Ed Pearce, coxed by Sam Malloy) was up against Dartmouth and Bideford Reds. Before this race had started, Reds had an 100% win record, which the Exmouth junior boys had much pleasure in breaking when they finished the race 3 lengths clear of them!
Jack and Charlie also won the Mens Junior 16 Double Sculls against Bideford, while Ed and Marcus placed 2nd in the J142x catagory.
Mike Drew placed 2nd in the Mens Vet Single Sculls.
All the regatta points accumulated throughout the day from each of the top three placing boats were added up. (1st = 3 pts, 2nd = 2 pts, 3rd =1 pt) Exmouth and Dartmouth drew for the Regatta Shield with 27 points each.
It took Exmouth 13 years to win their first regatta shield, then 2 weeks to win their 2nd!!
